Anstruther drawings

Looking back to Anster Church from the beach below the golf club. Lots of scallop shells on the beach probably from the kitchen!

View to Pittenween from shell beach.

Anster Church from the beach below Castle Street.

Week in Anstruther in East Neuk of Fife at 6 Chambers Brae

Sunday walk to Pittenween from Anstruther. Sketch on the Rotary seat at the end of the golf course- the verticals on the harbour wall are a rig for fixing the sea defences.

Sitting in Anster Church  graveyard overlooking the Dreel Burn looking back to Anstruther. The burn is tidal to this point and quite stagnant upstream giving an awful smell.

Two sketches from computer screen in the flat.

Three days three art clubs

Joined Lanchester Monday Art Group 10 til 12
Started Durham from Frankland Lane on 200lb Saunders Waterford rough paper. Cobalt blue and naples yellow (Daler Rowney) for the sky with raw sienna and some brown madder for the foreground. Viridian green and raw sienna for the greens. Brown madder and ultramarine for the darks. Counter change on the electric poles painted negatively through the trees- no masking fluid used.
Finished on Tuesday at the Chester-le-St Arts Society - darken foreground and grasses and added detail to cathedral.

Needs something in the bottom corner and re-shape the middle distance which is too regular.

Fell Foot Farm in Little Langdale with Castle Howe and Blake Rigg behind. For as sketch drawn on our holiday walk from Greenbank cottage belonging to the Three Shires Inn.

Wednesday Art group finished off two watercolour paintings
Lizard Point at Whitburn on Bockingford not paper

Chester-le-Street Market Place on Saunders Waterford rough paper.

Try acrylics again

Port Isaac in acrylics

Gesso over an old painting then drawn in pencil and reinforced some lines with the edge of a compressed charcoal block. Sealed with spray.
Painting the white then added the colour using scarlet, ultramarine and lemon yellow using a flat nylon brush. Colours added to sponge roller and lightly tinged the whites. I like the top but not the bottom of the painting.

Used up the remaining paint on a small canvas and added some burnt sienna and raw sienna for a pond with tree painting. Looks OK across the room but not close in.

South Shields to Marsden walk

Park the car at Marsden and caught the bus to South Shields ( only one per hour ). Sandwiches for lunch at Little Haven Hotel- busy but no children. Walked from the Groyne to Trow Point with a couple of showers on the way. Passed the Disappearing Gun and sketched the Target Rocks from the top of Trow Point.

Then just pass Man Bay sketched looking north to Tynemouth.
I like the way the water flowed through the gap in the stack.

Other draws from photographs

Felt tip pens to draw an impression of Marsden Bay with some lines softened with water.
Starting at Souter Lighthouse along to Marsden Grotto lift then on to Lots Wife stack and down to access to Camel Island. Up to Marsden Rock then Pompeys Pillar and on to the arch at Lizard Point.
Started the drawing like this using three pens held together to give direction lines.
